About Course

This hybrid course offers individuals with a bachelor’s degree a fast, non-traditional pathway into the high-demand field of special education. Participants are prepared to apply for a provisional teaching certificate through the Oklahoma State Department of Education, allowing them to begin teaching while completing certification requirements.

 

Courses are taught by current practitioners and offered in flexible formats—including evening and accelerated summer options—with a hybrid format (online and in-person). The program also includes three 2-hour follow-up workshops held in September, December, and February to support continued success in the classroom. The course breakdown is below:

 

Instruction hours – 32

Observation hours – 30

Workshop – 8

Coursework – 80

 

Ideal for those looking to quickly transition into a rewarding career in special education in Oklahoma.

 

Partnership with Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU): Course credit will be awarded for SPCED 5213 – Intro to Special Education if a student chooses to complete their 18 college credit hours or Master’s degree at SWOSU.

 

Note: Class is a hybrid format. There will be both online and in-person components to successfully complete.

In-District students include those whose permanent residence is within any technology center district in Oklahoma. Proof of residency in the form of a utility bill, lease agreement, or mortgage will be required.
